I made all the classic business blogging mistakes. Here’s how I fixed them—and how you can avoid them too.

👩‍💻 From the Desk of a Swiss Business Student…

When I launched my business blog during my second year at university here in Switzerland, I had big dreams.

But after three months of publishing weekly, I had… 12 views.

Most of them were probably my mom.

That’s when I realized: blogging isn’t just about writing what’s in your head. It’s a strategy. And I was doing it all wrong.

So I started researching, testing, learning—and fixing my mistakes one by one. Within a month, my traffic tripled. And now? That blog helped me land a killer internship in digital strategy.

Here are the 10 biggest blogging mistakes I made—and how you can fix them way faster than I did.

🚫 1. I Had No Idea Who I Was Writing For

At first, I wrote general business tips for “anyone interested.” But vague content attracts… no one.

Fix:
I got specific. I chose to write for young entrepreneurs and startup founders—people like me. Suddenly, my posts started getting shared in student business groups.

⏱ 2. I Was Posting Randomly

Sometimes I’d publish three times a week. Then nothing for a month. Not exactly reliable.

Fix:
I created a realistic schedule: one high-quality post every Wednesday. Readers knew when to expect something—and I stayed consistent.

📉 3. My Headlines Were So Boring

“Marketing Strategies for Business Owners” isn’t exactly scroll-stopping, right?

Fix:
I learned to write headlines that made people curious or promised a real benefit. Think:

✅ “How I Got My First 1,000 Blog Views Without Ads”

🧱 4. I Wrote Walls of Text

I didn’t think about structure. Just long, dense paragraphs.

Fix:
Now I use short paragraphs, bullet points, and clear headings. I make it easy to skim.

🔍 5. I Wasn’t Using Keywords—At All

I wasn’t optimizing for anything. I didn’t even know what SEO meant.

Fix:
Now, I choose one keyword per post and naturally work it into the title, URL, subheadings, and body.

🔗 6. I Didn’t Link to Anything

No internal links. No outbound links. Just a lonely island of content.

Fix:
Now I link to relevant blog posts I’ve written—and to high-quality sources. It helps with SEO and keeps readers on my site.

📷 7. My Blog Had No Visuals

I thought a blog was just words. But readers need more.

Fix:
I started using royalty-free images, infographics, and even made a few custom Canva graphics to boost engagement.

📣 8. I Never Promoted My Posts

I’d publish… and pray. That was it.

Fix:
Now I share each post on LinkedIn, business student groups, and my email list. I even turn blog tips into Instagram carousels.

📬 9. I Had No Call-to-Action

At the end of my posts, I just said “thanks for reading.” That’s it.

Fix:

🧠 10. I Never Looked at My Analytics

I didn’t know which posts were doing well—so I couldn’t double down on what worked.

Fix:
I check my blog stats weekly. When I saw one post getting tons of traffic, I updated it and added an opt-in offer. That email list? It’s growing every day.

💬 Final Thoughts: From Frustration to Momentum

If you’re making any of these mistakes—don’t worry. I made them all.

But once I fixed them, everything changed. Blogging became fun again. And more than that—it started opening real doors for my career.
